If you didn’t know already, this week is Sexual Health Awareness Week and the theme for this year is ‘Consent: Yes, yes, yes!’
Consent is an important part of all of our sexual relationships, but Consent: Yes, yes, yes! is all about how consent is so much more than just saying no. It’s about communicating, listening to each other and enthusiastically agreeing, not just once but every time.
Sometimes sex just seems to happen so quickly, but it’s so important to slow down and check in with your partner. If your partner is being forced or feels pressured, or if they are too intoxicated to be able to make the conscious decision then they haven’t given their consent. It only counts as a ‘yes’ if they have the ability to say ‘no’.
Remember, this is the same whether you’re having sex with a stranger, your partner or even someone who you’re married to! Consent means enthusiastic agreement every time there is sexual activity.
